On June 8, 2026, the final press conference of the Observer Mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the regular elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia took place. Members of the Mission’s Coordination Council participated on the event.
Mission Head Nurlan Seitimov noted that electoral legislation of Armenia complies with universally recognized principles and applicable norms of international law, and constitutes a sufficient legal basis for the conduct of free and democratic elections.
The Mission states that the procedures for the nomination and registration of candidates for deputies were carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code. According to the CIS observers, the participation of a large number of candidates in the electoral campaign ensured that it was conducted on the basis of competition and political pluralism.
The CIS observers note that the campaigning was active and was characterized by intense rivalry among political competitors.
On election day, June 7, 2026, Mission representatives visited more than 750 polling stations in nine provinces of the Republic of Armenia and the city of Yerevan.
According to Mission members, polling stations opened on time, voting took place in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code, and technical equipment generally functioned without interruption.
A video surveillance system was used at the vast majority of polling stations.
The vote counting procedure was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the electoral legislation.
The CIS Observer Mission concludes that the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on June 7, 2026, were conducted in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia, took place on a multi-party basis, and were open and competitive.
It should be recalled that 121 observers were accredited as part of the CIS Observer Mission. They are representatives of seven Commonwealth countries, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the CIS Executive Committee. Eight people worked on a long-term basis. The work of the observers was coordinated by the Mission Headquarters in Yerevan.
