CIS Observation Mission Head Ilkhom Nematov Meets with Russian Interior Ministry Representatives

On 2 September 2026, Head of the CIS Observation Mission and CIS Deputy Secretary-General Ilkhom Nematov met with Head of the Administration for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Roman Terentyev and other representatives of the Ministry. They discussed key areas of work to ensure public security during the parliamentary election campaign in Russia.

Ilkhom Nematov noted the constructive cooperation between the CIS Observation Mission and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. He said this cooperation would undoubtedly help the Mission successfully carry out its key observation tasks.

The Head of the CIS Observation Mission noted that all relevant Russian government authorities were making considerable efforts to create the necessary conditions for voters to freely exercise their electoral rights. The election campaign is proceeding peacefully and in an organised manner.

Roman Terentyev told the Head of the Mission about measures being taken to prevent, identify and suppress unlawful acts that could potentially interfere with the work of election commissions and the exercise of citizens’ electoral rights. According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has not identified any serious cases of violations of electoral legislation that require immediate action. The review of all statements and reports concerning violations of electoral rights, as well as appeals from participants in the electoral process, is under special control.

Following the meeting, it was agreed that internal affairs authorities would provide comprehensive support to the CIS Observation Mission in carrying out its tasks, including providing the information necessary to compile the interim and final results of the observation.
