CIS Approves Themes for 2028 and 2029

In the Commonwealth of Independent States 2028 has been designated the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life and 2029 the Year of CIS Transport Connectivity. The decision was adopted at the CIS Heads of State Council meeting held in Turkmenistan on October 9, 2026.

The initiatives were put forward by the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Turkmenistan, respectively.

Throughout 2028, measures aimed at promoting sustainable social development and improving quality of life are expected to include improving the regulatory framework in the social and labour sphere, implementing pilot projects, promoting best practices in social welfare, and organising international forums and platforms to discuss legal, socio-economic and demographic policy.

Transport connectivity within the Commonwealth involves a range of measures to develop infrastructure, coordinate different modes of transport, digitalise the sector and ensure transport safety. These measures help to promote economic integration, strengthen foreign trade relations and support the region’s sustainable development.
