Uzbekistan to Assume CIS Chairmanship on 1 January 2027

Uzbekistan will assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States on 1 January 2027. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced this during the expanded session of the CIS Heads of State Council.

“The heads of state decided that the Republic of Uzbekistan would hold the CIS chairmanship in 2027 with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan serving as co-chairs. As meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council are traditionally held in the country holding the Commonwealth’s chairmanship, it was decided that the next meeting would take place in Bukhara, Uzbekistan,” the president stated.
