On October 9, 2026, the Plenum of the CIS Economic Court held its session in Minsk.
It was attended by representatives of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS Economic Court.
CIS Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Seitimov delivered a welcoming address to the participants. He emphasised that the CIS Executive Committee highly values long-lasting businesslike and friendly relations with the CIS Economic Court. The sessions of the Plenum are held annually at the CIS headquarters and have become a good tradition.
“Throughout the history of the CIS, the Economic Court has played an important role as a body of international justice, called upon to facilitate the resolution of disputes, to contribute to legal certainty and the uniform application of the CIS norms and to ensure their progressive development. Through its activities the Court has always demonstrated absolute commitment to this role and continues to responsibly fulfil the duties assigned to it,” stated Nurlan Seitimov.
According to the CIS Deputy Secretary-General, after being reformed, the Economic Court has managed to organise its work in a new format and has resumed its full functioning. The Register of Judges from each member state has been fully formed. The Court has adopted the necessary regulations and is implementing them, and regularly holds hearings in written and oral proceedings. The potential of the Court is engaged in the work of the CIS Council of Heads of Supreme Courts.
Nurlan Seitimov also noted that enhancing the role of the CIS Economic Court set by the CIS Heads of State Council in the Concept for the Further Development of the Commonwealth of Independent States remains relevant.
“Corresponding proposals regarding the improvement of its work are thoroughly reflected in the Report on the Activity of the CIS Economic Court in 2025 and we believe that they deserve the attention and support of the members of the Plenum and the CIS Member States. Their implementation would make it possible to expand access to judicial interpretation of the Commonwealth international legal instruments, to improve the quality of the procedural, analytical and administrative activities of the Court, as well as to strengthen its organizational independence and authority,” said the CIS Deputy Secretary-General.
During the session, the Plenum discussed the improvement of the Rules of Procedure of the CIS Economic Court based on its application practice and the work of the Court in the new format. The composition of the Scientific and Advisory Council at the CIS Economic Court was updated.
