The CIS Observation Mission for the elections of deputies to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the unicameral legislature of Kazakhstan, established in June 2026 – will be headed by CIS First Deputy Secretary-General Igor Petrishenko. His nomination was approved by the members of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member States to the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth during their meeting held in Minsk on July 28.
The Mission is expected to begin its work on August 3. Its headquarters will be opened in Astana and a number of meetings are planned with the leadership of the state authorities responsible for organizing and conducting the elections.
The elections to the Kurultai are scheduled for August 23, 2026. During the vote, 145 deputies will be elected to the new legislature of Kazakhstan.
