CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev Highlights Importance of Interaction Among Commonwealth State News Agencies

A meeting was held at the CIS Executive Committee between CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev and the Chairman of the CIS Council of Heads of State Information Agencies Director General of TASS Andrey Kondrashov.

 

Sergey Lebedev noted the significant role of the Council in covering major events in the life of the Commonwealth countries, emphasizing the importance of further developing cooperation among leading media outlets in the post-Soviet space.

During the conversation, Andrey Kondrashov spoke about joint projects by state news agencies and TASS in 2025, which were dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. He stressed the need for active counteraction against attempts by the collective West and some politicians from the CIS countries to rewrite the history of the military and labor feat of the peoples of the Soviet Union.

The meeting discussed the Council’s plans for the current year, including projects dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the CIS and the Year of Health Protection being observed in the Commonwealth. Andrey Kondrashov also informed about upcoming meetings of the Council, which are planned to discuss topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in journalistic activities and the development of the tourism potential of the Commonwealth countries.

The Council was established in November 1995. Its members include the heads of state news services from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Tajikistan. The activities of the Council are aimed at ensuring interaction and cooperation among CIS countries in the information sphere, creating favorable conditions for the unimpeded dissemination of information and effective exchange of professional experience, as well as strengthening media partnership.
