At the Summit held on September 29 in Minsk, the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States approved The Action Plan for the second phase (2026–2030) of the Framework Programme for Cooperation among the CIS Member States in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy until 2030.
The Council originally approved the Programme in November 2020. It is a key document that defines the main directions for developing interaction, as well as the principles and mechanisms for coordination in the nuclear energy sector of the CIS member states.
The Action Plan for the first phase (2021–2025) is currently underway. Its main implementation areas include:
- Developing cooperation in the management of hazardous waste;
- Conducting transboundary shipments of radioactive materials;
- Ensuring nuclear and radiation safety;
- Carrying out reclamation works;
- Conducting applied scientific research.
Within the framework of the second phase, the CIS countries plan to deepen cooperation in developing and improving nuclear infrastructures, as well as in building public acceptance and a positive perception of the nuclear industry among the population. The implementation of these measures aims to ensure the sustainable and safe development of the nuclear industry, meeting modern challenges and requirements.
