On August 18, 2026, long-term CIS observers visited a number of polling stations in Astana, as part of their monitoring activities, and assessed their readiness for election day.
At this stage of preparations for the elections of deputies to the Kurultai, election commissions are paying particular attention to informing citizens, delivering personal invitations specifying the time and place of voting, and creating the necessary conditions for all participants in the electoral process, including an accessible environment for people with disabilities.
International observers also visited the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan to learn about its work to ensure the highest level of oversight of accurate and uniform application of laws by all participants in the electoral process.
During the meeting, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office briefed the observers on the role of prosecution authorities in protecting citizens’ electoral rights, ensuring the legality of the actions of election commissions and government bodies, as well as preventing violations of the Constitutional Law on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan at all stages of the electoral process.
They also reported violations identified during public opinion polls and the pre-election campaign, as well as measures taken by prosecutors against those responsible.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to provide the CIS Observation Mission Headquarters with information on identified violations and on the outcomes of complaints and appeals related to the elections of deputies to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
