CIS Observer Mission Statement on Kazakhstan’s Kurultai Elections

STATEMENT

of the CIS Observer Mission

on the Results of Monitoring the Preparation and Conduct

of the Elections of Deputies of the Kurultai

of the Republic of Kazakhstan

 

Upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Observer Mission from the Commonwealth of Independent States (hereinafter – the Mission) monitored the preparation and conduct of the elections of deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – the elections).

The elections were scheduled for August 23, 2026, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan of July 1, 2026.

The Mission began monitoring the elections on August 3, 2026, and carried out its functions freely and independently, in compliance with the legislation of the host country, without interfering in the electoral process or the internal affairs of the state.

Conclusions

The Observer Mission from the Commonwealth of Independent States concludes that the elections of August 23, 2026:

were held at a high organisational level, in full compliance with the electoral legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

were fair, competitive and transparent;

ensured the realisation of the right of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan to free expression of will.
