CIS Heads of Governments Council Adopts 2026 Year of Health Protection Action Plan

The Council of Heads of Governments of the Commonwealth of Independent States, at the Summit held on September 29, 2025, in Minsk, approved the Action Plan for the preparation and conduct of the Year of Health Protection in the CIS in 2026.

Cooperation in the field of healthcare is a priority area of interaction among the CIS countries. According to the established practice of holding thematic years* in the Commonwealth, the Plan includes events of interstate significance as well as key events conducted at the national level.

The document consists of 10 sections, encompassing around 100 activities. Among them are the improvement of the legal and regulatory framework of the Commonwealth in healthcare, cooperation with the World Health Organization, and holding events on the sidelines of meetings of WHO governing bodies.

Joint scientific and practical events, conferences, congresses, exhibitions of new health protection technologies, telemedicine programs, remote diagnostics, and a number of other important activities will take place in the CIS countries.

The Year of Health Protection marks the beginning of the practical implementation of the Concept of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the Field of Population Health Protection, approved by the CIS Heads of Governments Council on June 5, 2025.

*The tradition of proclaiming thematic years in the CIS, which began in 1999, promotes development in various humanitarian fields by concentrating efforts on the implementation of related programs and plans in the member states.
