The CIS Heads of State Council approved the Concept of Military Cooperation of the Commonwealth Member States until 2030 at its regular summit held on October 10 in Dushanbe.
In accordance with the priorities of the CIS states, military cooperation is open and non-bloc in nature and is not directed against third countries. Its goals are to maintain international peace, regional stability, and the safe development of the CIS states.
The spiritual foundation of the cooperation is the historical memory of the Great Victory of 1941–1945, common heroic past and constructive present.
The Concept provides for the development of ties between defense ministries, general staffs of the armed forces, military command bodies, and various categories of military specialists involved in joint activities.
The Concept focuses specifically on strengthening national structures of joint military systems within the armed forces, in particular:
- unified air defense system,
- joint communications system,
- unified system for monitoring and assessing the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) situation.
This will enhance the combat capabilities of the national armed forces and the level of interaction in the military sphere.
The approved document creates the necessary political and legal conditions in the medium term for further multilateral military cooperation in the interests of ensuring the secure development of the Commonwealth states.
