Coordinating Council of CIS Prosecutors General Meeting Held in Dushanbe

The Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the Commonwealth of Independent States held its regular meeting on October 21 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

 

Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Anti-Terrorism Center, and the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the CIS Member States, as well as the Executive Committee of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, participated in the meeting.

CIS Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Seitimov headed the CIS Executive Committee delegation. He conveyed a greeting to the Council members on behalf of CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

In his greeting message, Sergey Lebedev noted that the Coordinating Council is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its foundation. This milestone coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. At this time, it is more important than ever to focus joint efforts on suppressing attempts to justify the monstrous crimes of Nazism.

He also stated that the Council consistently fulfills its assigned tasks, shows initiative, creates and improves the foundation for prosecutorial cooperation. The Council contribute to the strengthening of preventive activities, with citizens and society as a whole being widely involved in the work of prosecutorial authorities. The introduction of information technologies enhances the transparency of prosecutorial bodies.

Well-coordinated and focused work of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General also encourages the maintenance of stability and fosters economic development.

During the meeting, the representatives of the prosecutors general offices exchanged relevant work experience, discussed the state of crime, investigative work, prosecutorial activities, and the practice of implementing agreements in the field of international legal cooperation in combating crime in CIS countries. They also summarized the results of the implementation of the Interstate Program of Joint Measures to Combat Crime, the Cooperation Program in Combating Terrorism and Extremism, and the Cooperation Program in Strengthening Border Security at the External Borders for the previous year. Furthermore, issues related to the activities of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General for 2020-2025, and the training, retraining, and professional development of prosecutorial staff were considered.

The next meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS Member States is planned for 2026 in Kazan (Russian Federation).
