CIS First Deputy Secretary-General Igor Petrishenko Attends the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly

On November 13, 2025, the CIS First Deputy Secretary-General Igor Petrishenko attended a meeting of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in Dushanbe.

 

In his address, he briefed parliamentarians on the results of the meetings of the Commonwealth's highest bodies held this year (the Heads of Government Council meeting on September 29 in Minsk and the Heads of State Council meeting on October 10 in Dushanbe).

Igor Petrishenko emphasized the unanimity of the heads of state and government that the CIS remained a reliable, relevant, and effective platform for cooperation, as well as they recognized the absolute priority of ensuring security and maintaining peace in the Commonwealth, strengthening the economic space, deepening trade, investment, and industrial cooperation.

The CIS First Deputy Secretary-General noted the importance of enhancing the Commonwealth's authority on the international stage, preserving traditions of cross-cultural communication, and strengthening trust between nations. He described the granting of the Observer status within the CIS to the SCO and the establishment of the "CIS Plus" format as key political decisions.

The Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) is an intergovernmental body of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The CIS IPA consists of the parliamentary delegations of the member states. Representatives of the delegations are appointed or elected by national parliaments.
The activities of the Interparliamentary Assembly are organized by the CIS IPA Council which generally meets twice a year. The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly also holds plenary sessions twice a year.
