CIS Children's Rights Commissioners (Ombudsmen) Meet in Minsk

On November 13, 2025, the sixth meeting of the CIS Commission of Children's Rights Commissioners (Ombudsmen) was held at the Commonwealth headquarters.

The event was attended by Commission members from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Economic Court, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the CIS Executive Committee.

Addressing the participants, CIS Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Seitimov noted that the Commonwealth states have always maintained constructive cooperation on protecting the rights of the younger generation. He emphasized that the creation of the Commission of Children's Rights Commissioners was another significant step in this direction.

The meeting consolidated the efforts of the Commonwealth states to protect the rights and legitimate interests of children and promote family values. "The institution of ombudsmen plays a special role in this area, highlighting the need to systematically address the protection of minors’ rights, and at the same time, is deeply involved in this process, actively interacting with all civil society actors," the CIS Deputy Secretary-General noted.

The ombudsmen summarized the Commission's work in 2025 and outlined activities for the near future. They discussed the topics of raising children as moral and responsible individuals, organizing recreation for children, and working with children in conflict with the law (prevention, social integration, and protection of rights). A separate section was dedicated to the role of children's rights commissioners in improving children's rights legislation.

The meeting also approved the composition of the Children's Council under the CIS Commission of Children's Rights Commissioners (Ombudsmen) and adopted its Work Plan.
