A meeting of the expert group for finalizing and coordinating the draft Fundamentals of Information Policy of the CIS Member States in the Border Sphere was held on December 3-4 at the CIS headquarters in Minsk.
The meeting was attended by representatives from:
– Belarus;
– Kazakhstan;
– Kyrgyzstan;
– Russia;
– Tajikistan;
– the Border Troops Commanders Council and its Coordination Service;
– the CIS Executive Committee.
The experts discussed the positions of the states on the proposals received for the draft Fundamentals, finalized the document, and approved it by majority vote. It was decided to submit it through established procedures for consideration by the CIS Heads of State Council.

The draft Fundamentals of Information Policy was developed based on paragraph 1.1.4 of the CIS Program of Cooperation in Strengthening Border Security on the External Borders for 2021–2025.
The need for its preparation is driven by:
– new realities in the CIS information space, associated with challenges and threats in the information sphere;
– the active development of information and communication technologies and their impact on information infrastructure and environment;
– the maintenance of security and stability on the borders overall.
The adoption of the document will allow countries to develop and adjust information policy within the Commonwealth space in the interests of implementing coordinated border policy.
