A meeting of the expert group for finalizing and coordinating the draft Regulations on the CIS Member States’ Project “Thematic Year in the Tourism Sphere of the Commonwealth” was held at the CIS headquarters on December 18, 2025. Participating via video conference were representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and experts from:
– Armenia;
– Belarus;
– Kazakhstan;
– Kyrgyzstan;
– Russia;
– Tajikistan;
– Uzbekistan.
The initiative was considered at a meeting of the CIS Council on Tourism held on May 28, 2025 in Sochi (Russia), where its members generally approved the draft Regulations.
The CIS Council proposed to declare 2025–2026 as the Years of Mountain Tourism. The idea has been successfully promoted on various international tourism platforms of the CIS. Within the framework of the initiative, new recommendations for developing mountain tourism were formed, and development prospects were outlined, which significantly helped to draw attention to this type of recreation.
The draft Regulations will be approved by the CIS Heads of Government Council.

The CIS Council on Tourism was established by the Decision of the CIS Heads of Government Council on May 30, 2012.
The main task of the Council is to promote the development of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of tourism through government agencies, national and regional tourism organizations, societies, firms, enterprises and international tourism organizations.
