On January 22, 2026, the first meeting of the Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council this year was held in Moscow. The meeting was chaired by the Plenipotentiary Representative of Turkmenistan to the Economic Affairs Commission, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation, Esen Aydogdyyev.
It should be recalled that in 2026, Turkmenistan holds the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
During the meeting, Esen Aydogdyyev presented the Concept of Turkmenistan’s Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2026.
Addressing the attendees, the Chairman of the Commission, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Esen Aydogdyyev, stated: “Our main goal for the chairmanship period is to comprehensively promote the strengthening of cooperation and partnership among the member states to maximize the CIS potential, ensure effective development of the Commonwealth states, and increase the well-being and quality of life of their peoples.
We expect that Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth will significantly strengthen the CIS’s position as a platform for equitable cooperation and trust, contribute to expanding economic and transport links between the member states, and facilitate the coordination of new approaches to the environmental and digital challenges of the 21st century”.
During the meeting, participants:
– Reviewed the draft Main Directions of Cooperation among CIS Member States in the field of Radioactive Waste Management, Spent Nuclear Fuel, and Decommissioning of Nuclear- and Radiation-Hazardous Facilities for the period until 2030;
– Approved the draft Decision of the CIS Economic Council, which grants the status of a CIS basic organization in the field of quality and business excellence improvement, as well as the development of professional competencies of quality specialists, to the autonomous non-profit organization “Russian Quality System” (Roskachestvo), and approved its Regulations;
– Considered the issue of the 2025 Commonwealth of Independent States Prize for Achievements in the Field of Product and Service Quality;
– Heard the Report on the activities of the CIS basic organization in the field of scientific and technical book publishing and periodicals, the federal state budgetary institution “Nauka (Science) Publishing House”;
– Approved the draft agenda for the 109th meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Economic Council and the Work Plan of the Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council for 2026.
The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for February 18, 2026.
