On March 11, 2026, a meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring the Economic Situation in the CIS Member States and Preparing Specific Proposals on Possible Joint Measures to Respond to Emerging Problems took place at the CIS Executive Committee office.
The meeting was attended by representatives of:
- ministries and agencies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan;
- the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee;
- the CIS Executive Committee;
- plenipotentiary representatives of the Commonwealth member states to the Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council.
The meeting was organized in accordance with a proposal received by the CIS Executive Committee from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding the implementation of an initiative to launch rapid response mechanisms within the CIS Economic Council to address changes in the external environment and reorientation of trade flows. This initiative was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on October 10, 2025.
In furtherance of this initiative, the Uzbek side proposed considering the possibility of updating the List of Joint Measures to Respond to Emerging Economic Problems, developed by the said Working Group in 2022.
Addressing the meeting participants, CIS Deputy Secretary-General Ilkhom Nematov noted: “Against the backdrop of deepening crisis phenomena in the global economy, stability in the economies of the CIS countries can only be achieved through the development of mutual trade and expansion of production cooperation, as well as cooperation in the fields of science and high technologies. It seems that the initiative of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the proposed measures for its implementation through updating the List of Joint Measures to Respond to Emerging Problems are precisely aimed at this.”
Director of the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee, Mikhail Myskin, informed the meeting participants about the results of implementing the List in 2022–2024 and the proposals received for its updating from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Having discussed these proposals point by point, the participants of the Working Group meeting also presented their states' positions regarding further work on the List and agreed with the proposal of the CIS Executive Committee, within the framework of implementing the initiative of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to prepare a draft Decision of the CIS Economic Council on interaction in priority areas of economic cooperation for the purpose of jointly responding to emerging problems. The relevant materials will be sent to the CIS member states for further coordination.
Work on implementing the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will continue.
