March 24 is World Tuberculosis Day. Tuberculosis Prevention in High Priority in CIS Year of Health Protection

Every year, on March 24, World Tuberculosis Day is held to raise public awareness of the devastating effects of tuberculosis on health, society and the economy and to step up efforts to combat the global tuberculosis epidemic.

As part of the implementation of the Action Plan for the preparation and holding of the Year of Health Protection in 2026 in the Commonwealth of Independent States, actions are being held among the population in all CIS member states for the prevention and early diagnosis of tuberculosis.

In order to reduce the burden of tuberculosis in society, experts from the Commonwealth countries have established a special Working Group and are currently working on a draft Joint Action Plan to prevent the spread of tuberculosis for 2027-2030. This document is aimed at improving TB prevention methods and coordinating approaches to ensure early detection of all its forms, as well as universal access to drug resistance testing, including for migrants.

At the initiative of the Working Group, on May 20, 2026, a round table on "Observation and monitoring of the health status of migrants. The experience of interagency cooperation" will be held at the CIS Executive Committee. Despite numerous international agreements, migrants have difficulty accessing tuberculosis treatment in their host country. In this regard, representatives of the CIS countries plan to discuss issues of interdepartmental and international cooperation, and share their experience in organizing migrants' access to early detection, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of tuberculosis in their countries.
