CIS Defense Ministers Discuss Military Cooperation and Regional Security

On April 2 in Moscow, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Andrei Belousov, the 86th meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States Member States took place.

 

Among the participants of the meeting were:

- Defense Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov,

- Defense Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin,

- Defense Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aviation Lieutenant General Dauren Kosanov,

- Defense Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Major General Ruslan Mukambetov,

- Defense Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Colonel General Emomali Sobirzoda,

- Defense Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Lieutenant General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov,

- Secretary of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS Member States, Lieutenant General Yuriy Dashkin,

- Secretary-General of the CIS, Army General Sergey Lebedev.

In accordance with the agenda, a thorough exchange of views took place on current issues of the international agenda and the development of cooperation in the military sphere in modern conditions.

Great importance was given to the analysis of the military-political situation and Eurasian security, as well as practical issues of building regional stability based on military cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Against the backdrop of the worsening international situation, a substantive discussion was held on current issues of multilateral military cooperation and its further development.

Priority attention was given to the implementation of the Concept of Military Cooperation of the CIS Member States until 2030 and, based on this concept, the implementation of joint military activities in the near and medium term.

The Council of Defense Ministers analyzed a range of issues of mutual interest in military cooperation.

During the meeting, current and long-term tasks for the development of joint (unified) military systems were considered as priority areas of cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to the dynamics of the functioning of the Joint Air Defense System and the Joint System for Monitoring and Assessing the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Situation, the prospects for their further development, and the improvement of interaction among national troops (forces) within the frameworks of these systems, taking into account the experience of conducting combat operations in modern conditions.

In the interests of improving cooperation in the military sphere and further focusing it on enhancing the combat capabilities of the armed forces of the Commonwealth states, the Council of Defense Ministers approved the Plan for Implementing the Concept of Military Cooperation until 2030, supported amendments to the Agreement on Interaction in the Field of Monitoring the CBRN Situation of November 14, 2008, approved joint military cooperation activities for 2027, considered financial and personnel issues, and defined tasks for the development of military cooperation.

Following the meeting, decisions of the Council of Defense Ministers aimed at further developing cooperation in the military sphere and strengthening the armed forces of the Commonwealth states were signed.

The 86th meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS Member States was held in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere.
