CIS Deputy Secretary-General Denis Trefilov: “Foundation of Our Joint Work is CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030”

On April 3, 2026, a plenary session was held at the International Trade Center in Moscow as part of the CIS International Economic Forum. The session was moderated by CIS Deputy Secretary-General Denis Trefilov.

Addressing the attendees, Denis Trefilov noted: “The year 2026 is special: we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Our Forum is dedicated precisely to this event, and this year it is held under the motto ‘35 Years of CIS: Developing Greater Eurasian Partnership’. The foundation of our joint work is the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030. Over the five years since its implementation began, we have gone through many challenges and trials. But at the same time, they have brought us great opportunities. Most Commonwealth countries have taken advantage of them and demonstrated sustainable economic growth exceeding global averages (some countries showing growth of 10 percent or more).”

“The global economy is increasingly shifting toward Eurasia. It is important for us to adapt national economies to new geopolitical realities, strengthen old ties, and seek new opportunities for cooperation.

Over 35 years, we have accumulated significant, largely positive, experience in cooperating with integration associations. There is a need to increase interaction with regional organizations in the Greater Eurasian space,” emphasized CIS Deputy Secretary-General Denis Trefilov.

The plenary session was attended by CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Member of the CIS Economic Council Alexey Overchuk, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev, State Secretary of the Union State Sergey Glazyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniyar Amangeldiev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation Marat Khusnullin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation Yuri Seliverstov, First Deputy President – Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank Olga Skorobogatova, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin, Head of the Department of Strategic Planning and Economic Policy of the Faculty of Public Administration at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Doctor of Economics, Professor Elena Veduta, and Chairman of the Coordination Council of the Association “Business Center for Economic Development of the CIS” Anatoly Kazakov.
