The Coordination Committee on Air Defense under the CIS Council of Defense Ministers is successfully fulfilling its tasks and making an important contribution to ensuring security, stated Deputy Chairman of the Coordination Committee, Chief of Armaments – Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces for Armaments of the Russian Federation Colonel General Yuri Grekhov.
Colonel General Grekhov separately expressed gratitude to Defense Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Lieutenant General Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov, who participated in the meeting of the Coordination Council. “I would like to note that our committee is successfully fulfilling its assigned tasks and making an important contribution to ensuring the security of the airspace of the Commonwealth countries,” he said at the 62nd meeting of the Coordination Committee on Air Defense under the CIS Defense Ministers Council.
According to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces for Armaments, the main directions for further work were outlined during the 62nd meeting of the Committee, and participants also exchanged accumulated experience in military-technical cooperation and discussed its current state and future prospects.
“Countering UAVs is one of the key tasks for air defense forces. To this end, CIS participants are modernizing air defense missile forces and radio-technical forces equipment, equipping them with modern weapons and military equipment, including electronic warfare means, in order to enhance the combat capabilities of national air defense systems,” he emphasized.
Joint work on the modernization of advanced communications and automation systems was also specifically noted. The main activities of the committee's future work, Grekhov noted, are reflected in the Committee’s forward-looking work plan. He emphasized that the committee is improving the practice of conducting joint operational combat training events, primarily exercises and drills.
During the event, an awards ceremony took place. Earlier, delegations from the defense ministries of the CIS member states laid flowers at the Victory Park memorial complex.
Representing the CIS Executive Committee at the meeting was Director of the Department for Cooperation in the Security Sphere Evgeny Klemez.
