In order to preserve historical truth, objective information about the Great Patriotic War, and the feat of the peoples of the CIS countries, a collective work by historians from the post-Soviet space has been published: “Peoples of the Soviet Union and the Great Victory. 1941–1945”.
The publication of the book was carried out with financial support from the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.
The joint monograph by historians of the Commonwealth countries was prepared under the auspices of the International Association (Commission) of Historians and Archivists of the CIS Member States. The preparation of the book was led and coordinated by the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, headed by the Institute’s Scientific Director and President of the Association, Academician Alexander Chubaryan.
The book was presented in April 2025 in Moscow at the International Scientific Conference “80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II”.
This work is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
The materials of the book’s chapters, revealing the contribution of the peoples of the former Soviet Union to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, were prepared by leading specialists from national academies of sciences and universities from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The publication represents the only large-scale joint research of its kind in the modern history of the Commonwealth countries. A distinctive feature of the work is that each “national” section, dedicated to the contribution of a particular republic of the former Soviet Union to the common Victory, was written by historians from the corresponding now sovereign CIS state.
Nauka Publishing House, which handled the layout and printing of the book, has provided its electronic version to the CIS Executive Committee.
To facilitate wider access to its content by citizens of the Commonwealth countries and other states, a PDF version of the book (in Russian) has been posted on the internet resources of the CIS Executive Committee.
