On May 15, 2026, a meeting of the Advisory Committee of Heads of Legal Services of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CIS Member States took place in Minsk, chaired by the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting was attended by members of the Committee and experts from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Legal Department of the CIS Executive Committee.
The рarticipants discussed the outcomes of the second CIS International Legal Forum, held in Minsk on May 13-14, 2026.
The Committee expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and to the CIS Executive Committee for their contribution to the organization of the Forum and recognized the expediency of holding the Forum on an annual basis as a reputable platform for professional dialogue among international lawyers across the Commonwealth. The initiative to establish a CIS Association on International Law was also supported.
The Committee members approved the draft Guidelines on Certain Issues of CIS Treaty Practice, which – after being finalized by the CIS member states – are planned to be submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.
The participants considered issues related to monitoring the performance of international treaties and the execution of decisions of CIS bodies.
The meeting concluded with a traditional exchange of views on current issues of international law and topics under consideration by the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly and the UN International Law Commission.
