On May 19, 2026, the 4th International Student Olympiad-Festival on Statistics began its work at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Moscow. The event was organized by the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee with the support of the CIS Executive Committee.
In 2026, the Olympiad is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The event will bring together 64 students from 8 Commonwealth states: Azerbaijan Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, analytical skills and ability to apply statistical methods to solve practical problems, as well as take part in thematic discussions on current issues of statistics and its role in the modern world.
The Olympiad is organized within the framework of the “Development of CIS Statistics” project and aims to promote statistics, showcase achievements in statistical education, improve the quality of specialist training within the CIS, and stimulate and encourage students' scientific creativity.
The opening ceremony of the Olympiad-Festival was attended by Director of the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee Mikhail Myskin, who delivered a welcoming address.
In his speech, he emphasized that the main achievement of the Olympiad should be the strengthening of friendship, mutual understanding and support among students, and the formation of a community of young statisticians in the Commonwealth countries. The future of statistics belongs to the youth. They will be the ones to introduce new technologies, work with AI, and create a new generation of statistics. Mikhail Myskin wished all participants victory, bright ideas and successful implementation of their plans.
