On May 20, 2026, a round table entitled “Monitoring and Surveillance of Migrants’ Health Status: Experience of Interagency Cooperation” took place at the CIS headquarters. The event was organized on the initiative of the CIS Working Group on Tuberculosis (TB) in compliance with the Decision of the CIS Council for Cooperation in Healthcare, adopted at its meeting in Dushanbe in October 2025.
The round table brought together representatives from:
- Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan;
- the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee;
- the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly;
- the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe;
- the International Organization for Migration (IOM);
- the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus;
- the Belarus Red Cross;
- and the CIS Executive Committee.
The topic of the round table is of considerable practical and humanitarian significance. Migrants remain a socially vulnerable category of citizens in dire need of prevention, early detection and treatment of dangerous communicable diseases, including TB, HIV, and hepatitis.
It was stated that the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly plays a key part in harmonizing migration policy across the post-Soviet space.
The CIS Working Group assessed the accessibility of specialized medical care for labor migrants in the region. Statistical data on migration and TB correlation in the CIS show that intensive cross-border labor flows are a key factor affecting the structure and dynamics of the epidemic process in the CIS countries. Effective monitoring of migrant health requires deepening of inter-agency cooperation and continuous exchange of data between public health bodies, internal affairs bodies, migration and border authorities, social welfare and statistical agencies, as well as parliaments and international organizations.
The results of the meeting will be presented at the next regular meeting of the CIS Council for Cooperation in Healthcare.
