CIS Observer Mission Monitors Parliamentary Elections in Armenia

On May 25, the CIS Mission long-term observers met with Deputy Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Armenia Yeghiazar Avagyan, who informed them about the activities of the prosecutor’s office during the election campaign. In particular, he reported on the establishment of a working group to coordinate the actions of law enforcement agencies during the preparation and conduct of the elections, as well as on the launch of a telephone hotline through which violations of electoral legislation can be reported.

 

During the meeting on May 26 with Karen Zarikyan, Chairman of the Administrative Court of the Republic of Armenia, the Commonwealth long-term observers discussed issues related to the competence of the Administrative Court in the electoral process, as well as specific features of examining complaints and appeals to be submitted during the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The Mission Headquarters members informed their interlocutors about the principles of the CIS Observer Mission formation and activity, emphasizing that the Mission will carry out its functions strictly in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, respecting the sovereignty of the state, and objectively assessing the process of preparation and conduct of the elections.
