The participants of the 34th meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State Information Agencies (CIS Information Council) held on June 3, 2026, discussed the use of artificial intelligence in journalism and professional cooperation in the age of modern media technologies advances.
Director of the Russian News Agency TASS Andrey Kondrashov noted that the Agency was one of the first to use automated data processing tools in its work.
According to him, intelligent systems help journalists solve various technical tasks. Nonetheless journalists reserve their main features – responsibility, professional intuition and experience, the ability to communicate with people, to formulate and ask questions, to feel and convey emotions, as well as to understand and tell the truth.
“We proceed from understanding that AI is not a competitor but an assistant to a present-day journalist. And it is in this capacity that one can use its abilities, while not forgetting the proverb: trust, but verify,” Andrey Kondrashov emphasized.
The meeting participants also addressed the topics of AI risk factors, the fight against fake content and disinformation, the launch of a new joint project – the ania-news.info website – about the life of the Commonwealth countries, their achievements in economy, science, culture, sports, and cooperation in various fields.

Established in 1995, the CIS Information Council is headed now by TASS Director Andrey Kondrashov. Its members are the heads of state news agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Tajikistan. Representatives from the leadership of the state news agencies of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan as observers, and the CIS Executive Committee, also take part in its meetings.
The Council is aimed at ensuring interaction and cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of information, creating favorable conditions for unimpeded information distribution and efficient exchange of professional experience, as well as strengthening media partnership.
