Large-Scale Campaign Dedicated to World Blood Donor Day Held in CIS Countries

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on June 14.

In 2026, a large-scale campaign is taking place in the CIS countries under the official WHO slogan “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” This initiative is intended to remind that a standard blood donation of 450 mL can help save up to three lives.

National blood services of the Commonwealth countries traditionally organize information and awareness campaigns, as well as donor marathons. Their main goal is to express gratitude to regular donors and encourage young people to become first-time donors.

Modern mobile blood donor units have been deployed both in major cities and in remote communities. Participants are offered themed photo zones, popular science lectures and commemorative gifts. Ceremonies are also being held to honor citizens awarded badges of distinction for their long-standing contribution in saving lives.

According to Fedor Karpenko, chairman of the CIS Expert Council on Transfusiology and director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology, at the Commonwealth site transfusion care is reaching a fundamentally new level of integration.

The harmonization of legal framework, the establishment of unified statistical indicators and the creation of a common basic organization in the field of transfusion medicine make it possible to promptly exchange experience and ensure the biological security of blood components across the Commonwealth, speaks the chairman.
