International Conference “City and Transport” Held at CIS Executive Committee

On June 23, 2026, the International Conference “City and Transport: Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety” was held at the CIS Executive Committee office in Moscow. The conference was organized by the Executive Committee of the Coordination Transport Meeting of the CIS Member States jointly with the Department for Economic Cooperation of the CIS Executive Committee.

 

The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant agencies and experts from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee, ESCAP, and the World Health Organization.

CIS Deputy Secretary-General Ilkhom Nematov delivered a welcoming address on behalf of the CIS Executive Committee.

In his speech, Ilkhom Nematov outlined a number of strategic directions for the transport system development in the CIS space, including the improvement of transport communications, multimodal corridors and the search for alternative routes. He also noted the Strategy for the Main Multimodal Transport Corridors, presented by the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Concept for Linking the Main Transport Arteries, prepared by the Republic of Kazakhstan, which were adopted by the heads of government over the past year.

The Deputy Secretary-General separately emphasized the extensive work being carried out this year by Turkmenistan as the CIS chair, and its initiative to declare 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity in the CIS.

The conference participants discussed issues of developing efficient, environmentally friendly and safe forms of urban mobility, exchanged experience in finding effective solutions to improve road safety and reduce negative impacts on the environment and public health.
