On June 26, 2026 the plenary session United against Fascism: Remembering the Past for the Sake of the Future was held in Minsk as part of the IV International Anti-Fascist Congress.
The session was attended by Nurlan Seitimov, CIS Deputy Secretary-General.
“Preserving historical memory is the foundation of our sovereignty and security. Today, when attempts are made to rewrite history, justify nazism and distort the facts, our priority is to defend the truth. We remember the past not to dwell on grievances but to prevent the repetition of the past mistakes... Lessons of the past enable us to build a peaceful future and preserve peace and stability,” Nurlan Seitimov emphasized.
The CIS countries contribution to the common Victory over fascism constitutes a decisive foundation of their historical sovereignty.
He recalled that the Commonwealth declared 2025 the Year of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 – the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Fascism. Commemorative events were held in every CIS member state to demonstrate that the Great Victory remains an enduring value for the peoples of the Commonwealth.
The CIS Heads of State Council approved the Address to the Peoples of the Commonwealth and the International Community on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945 which was circulated within the United Nations and other international organizations and institutions. Across the CIS member states, veterans were awarded the common commemorative medal 80 Years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945. The CIS Heads of State also established the honorary title City of Labor Glory 1941–1945 to recognize the contribution of home-front workers.
Nurlan Seitimov noted that the Concept for Military Cooperation between the CIS Member States until 2030 affirms that the military cooperation within the Commonwealth is grounded on the historical memory of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945, the common heroic past, and the constructive present of its peoples.
“The Great Patriotic War united our peoples in the fight against fascism. The memory of unity and solidarity in difficult times helps strengthen our national cohesion and reinforces the understanding that together we are strong and invincible. The unity against fascism must become a reliable shield guaranteeing a peaceful, bright and prosperous future for new generations,” CIS Deputy Secretary-General stated.
