World Cardiologist Day, observed annually on July 6, is an important professional occasion honoring specialists who save millions of lives around the world. The day also highlights the strategic importance of international cooperation across the Commonwealth of Independent States in reducing mortality from cardiovascular diseases, facilitating the rapid exchanging of expertise, and improving public health throughout the region.
Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death worldwide, claiming more than 18 million lives each year. Since disorders of the cardiovascular system are associated with the overwhelming majority of human diseases, cardiology services constitute one of the cornerstones of healthcare systems both at the national level and across the Commonwealth.
Combating cardiovascular diseases requires coordinated action, and close cooperation between the CIS member states makes it possible to address common challenges effectively. This includes harmonizing clinical diagnostic protocols, organizing joint scientific and practical conferences, and facilitating the transfer of advanced cardiovascular surgery technologies.
The particular impetus to the development of cardiology and related medical disciplines is provided by the activities of the CIS specialized basic organizations, which are helping to build a common scientific and expert community. The central role is played by the Russian National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine, the CIS basic organization for therapy and preventive medicine. The Center serves as an integration platform for developing model approaches to combating chronic non-communicable diseases. At the same time, the digital transformation of healthcare is coordinated by the Russian Research Institute of Health, the CIS basic organization for healthcare digitalization, which promotes the implementation of unified digital healthcare system, the expansion of telemedicine services, and the use of integrated registries of cardiovascular patients.
The practical implementation of these approaches is actively discussed at the Commonwealth’s major professional platforms, ranging from meetings of the Public Council of the CIS Basic Organizations to leading scientific forums. Thanks to this cooperation, the leading national medical institutions are able to rapidly introduce advanced methods of interventional cardiology, personalized pharmacotherapy, and telemedicine-based patient monitoring programmes.
On this professional occasion, we express our sincere appreciation to cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and specialists in related medical fields across the Commonwealth for their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to saving lives. The continued development of integration processes and the strengthening of interstate cooperation within the Commonwealth creates new opportunities for improving cardiovascular care and enhancing the quality of life of our citizens.
