CIS Expert Council Meeting on Diabetes Held in Minsk

On March 25, the CIS Executive Committee hosted a meeting of the Expert Council of the CIS member States on diabetes.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Secretariat of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization and the CIS Executive Committee.

 

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the draft Program of cooperation of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus for 2027-2030.

The experts discussed approaches to ensure early detection and modern treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) to achieve maximum quality and life expectancy. In this regard, it is proposed to include in the draft document a number of measures aimed at prevention, detection of predisposition, including overweight, and early diagnosis of DM.

Attention was focused on ensuring public access to glycated hemoglobin research, modern insulins, raising public awareness of DM, and statistical reporting on the prevalence of DM risk factors, prediabetes, DM and its complications. The issues of expanding of the use of continuous glycemic monitoring systems and special mobile applications, as well as the introduction of artificial intelligence in the work of doctors, were also discussed.

A significant block of issues was aimed at training medical personnel, including doctors and nursing staff of Diabetes Schools, primary care specialists.

Regarding the development of a single minimum list of measures for the diagnosis and treatment of DM, it is proposed to rely on the experience and achievements of the Russian Federation: from the model of treatment of manifest forms of DM to early risk medicine, the identification of prediabetes and the creation of a comprehensive system of preventive measures against diabetic complications.
